General Practitioner

Ala Farah is an experienced general practitioner with over 15 years of medical experience in both hospital and GP-based settings. She is a passionate advocate for her patients and enjoys incorporating lifestyle medicine and a holistic approach to healthcare.

Ala was born in Sudan, grew up in Dubai, and moved to New Zealand in 2009. She currently lives in Hamilton with her husband and three boys, who attend local schools. Since 2012, they have been proud residents of the Waikato region.

As a GP, she enjoys supporting her patients in achieving the best health outcomes by utilising a holistic and lifestyle medicine approach. She is particularly passionate about helping women address various hormonal concerns.

‘As a mother, a wife, and someone who juggles the demands of a full-time career, I understand what it’s like to often have your health needs take a back seat. Having been diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, a hormonal condition, and vestibular migraines, I quickly became frustrated with the traditional medication-only approach. I embarked on my own health and weight loss journey to find the solutions to optimise my health and wellbeing. Despite being a doctor, I realised that there is so much more to health-care beyond the diagnosis. Using a combination of low-carb, keto, and intermittent fasting, I have successfully made huge gains in my health and continue to reap the benefits of this lifestyle.’

‘I have immersed myself in learning about lifestyle medicine and am currently working towards a fellowship in the field. I am passionate about sharing my experience with patients and guiding them through the frustration of dealing with their chronic and long-term health conditions. I also strongly believe that self-love and empathy are crucial parts of any wellness journey.’

Working with the Reversal NZ team means that I can collaborate with a group of clinicians, health coaches and other health care providers who share my passion and vision. I am excited and feel privileged to be able to make a difference in peoples’ lives and well-being.
